Personally I'd go with the 6 speed. I wouldn't go with the 6.7L yet. In my eyes it has not yet proven itself the way the 5.9L has.
My 03 has been problem free |

Me too i would stick with the 6 speed you'll get better mileage. stick with the 5.9 the 6.7 still has a few bugs that need to be worked.

If you haven't found one yet, I would take blue book wholesale for my 05 6 speed truck. Nerve damage from back surgery is forcing me towards an automatic, much as I hate it. nice clean truck with 81,000 miles, 4X4 quad cab SLT with an astro topper on the bed. You can catch me at NTIL at the A On Line place. It has really been a problem free truck evident by how few posts I have made on here.

I personally prefer the 1998.5 to 2002 models but that's only because I'm more familiar with them. If I couldn't find one of those I wouldn't be afraid to buy a clean low mileage 2003. What did they change that makes the 2004 and up models better than the 2003?

I think the only diff in my 03 and the 05 i had was the 05 was a tripple squirter and the 03 is a dual. basically after 03 they put a 3rd shot of fuel to help emissions home how. otherwise i dont see any diff

With the weakness of the VP44, I would stay away from that engine, the 2003 with common rail sounds nice. The 6.7, is probably OK, as long as Cummins is still building OTR/industrial engines, I would not doubt it is going to be a long lasting engine. Do you know if they are using the 6.7 in medium and heavy trucking?
