With only 3000 miles on it, it has the dreaded "Dead Pedal" once again

So Blue Chip wants me to do a scan for codes then we can take it from there. I have a scanner, but I need to connect to a J1708 connector on my FL.

It acts exactly the same way it did before I replaced the original VP44.

I can only hope it is something simpler?

Have you checked fuel pressure coming to the VP44? If you've got a lift pump that is dead or dieing that would explain the injection pump problems

I put a gauge in the dash, I always know where my pressure is at.

Thanks for your help Chris, I think I just got a bad computer on my pump from the get go. And I went through all the effort to protect that new pump from fuel shortages. The old pump had to suck fuel on its own through multiple pump failures, and I never knew it, until I got hesitation.

I took it in for a scan today, at a local, heavy truck, diesel repair garage. The owner scanned it himself, and said there were no DTC's. He was thinking it was a waste gate problem, and encouraged me to trouble shoot it myself. I was planning to bring it back to him next week, but if he is still too busy, I might tackle it myself. Any one know where I can get an exploded view on the ISB turbo charger? Just in case.

Write down the serial number off the engine and go to http://quickserve.cummins.com . They let you sign up for a free account for one engine serial number. When you sign up be sure to enter your serial number carefully. If you make a typo it isn't easy getting it corrected. They have detailed parts diagrams and other information for your engine.

When it comes to VP44 pumps, you can't go wrong by following Chip Fisher's advice. I am a very happy customer of Blue Chip Diesel Performance.

Well, I got it all squared away for now, I had a leaky wastegate, leaky exhaust manifold, put in a 95gph Fass pump, and after all of that the VP44 got worse to the point of intermittent hard starting along with the dead pedal. So the VP44 is swapped out, and I am going to put 1/2" fuel lines on in a couple of days. Any thing I can do to save the VP44, if it dies again, I might go to a P-Pump.
