Rhinoliner Concerns

In preparation for a new slide in camper I decided to have my truck bed sprayed with a protective liner.  I did a lot of research, and ultimately decided on Rhinoliner due to their reputation.    I contacted Rhinoliner to find my local dealer, and was referred to Willard's Garage in Billings, MT.  The staff there was nice and helpful, and they sure sounded informed and experienced.  They didn't have any trucks they had sprayed for me to look at, but the owner seemed genuine so I accepted his word that he knew what he was doing.  He assured me that he would be personally spraying my truck, and I was comfortable with this.  I was quoted $537 and while there were cheaper sprayed in liners available ($300 for Line-X, even less for the generic lines), I didn't cut any corners when I bough my truck and I don't cut any corners in accessorizing it so Rhinoliner seemed like the obvious choice.

The first sign of trouble came when I went to pick up my truck.   Despite being quoted $537, they charged me $546 with the explanation of "shop fees".  Now I realize that we're only talking about $9, but it rubbed me the wrong way that they would quote me one price, and then charge me another after my truck has been sprayed.  It wouldn't have made a difference in my initial decision, but to slip in the "shop fee" after the fact was really poor form.

From a distance the liner looks great, but if you look closely the ineptness of the installer begins to show.

The first thing you notice is the freehand trimming.  There is nothing consistent about the bevels.  The angles are completely inconsistent, and the width is continually variable from wide to narrow to wide.  You cannot see the bevels with the tailgate up, but 90% of the time the tailgate is off the truck in storage.

Here is a close-up of further trimming.  Notice the sloppy notching, and uneven lines.

Inexperience or negligence, the most inexcusable aspect of this installation is the overspray and runs.

The biggest disappointment was the response I got when I contacted Rhinoliner customer service.  I emailed them with links to pictures of the install, and this is the response i got back (I emboldened the key sections):

Greetings Mr. Collier,

Rhino Linings USA, Inc. would like to say thank you for taking the time
to notify us of the problems you had with your liner and apologize for
any inconvenience this may have caused.

If you would please provide me with the name and location of the Rhino
Linings authorized dealer that sprayed your liner, I would be more than
happy to send them a letter of complaint.

Please note each Rhino Linings dealership is independently owned and
operated.
Therefore, the original spraying dealer is responsible for any
repair work. As long as it falls under their warranty guidelines, they
should acknowledge the warranty. If you, as the customer is unable to or
does not wish to go to the original spraying dealer, the owner of the
original spraying dealership should make arrangements for another dealer
to do the repair work, however he/she is under no obligation to do so.

If you should require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to
contact me.

Instead of responding with "tell us how we can help", they quickly distanced themselves from the installing dealer ("Please note each Rhino Linings dealership is independently owned and operated"), and went on to say (paraphrasing on my part) "not our problem, take it up with the installing dealership or live with it ("If you, as the customer is unable to or does not wish to go to the original spraying dealer, the owner of the original spraying dealership should make arrangements for another dealer to do the repair work, however he/she is under no obligation to do so").  On the surface this seems somewhat reasonable, until you factor in one thing.......the original installing dealer has already screwed up my truck one time and I simply don't trust him to touch my truck ever again.  In fact, in response to my initial complaint he told me that he thought the liner looked "great".

The installing dealership has called me and asked me to schedule an appointment to bring my truck in, but since I will not let them touch my truck again I guess I'll just have to "live with it" until Rhinoliner steps up to the plate and does the right thing by arranging the repairs at another dealership (the next closest one is in Bozeman, MT).

I'm completely satisfied with the quality of the Rhinoliner product, but the installation was very poor and the response I got from Rhinoliner was even worse.  It's unfortunate that I feel this page must exist in order to forewarn others.  Perhaps Rhinoliner will eventually do the right thing, and I'll update you if that ever happens.  Until such a time, I simply cannot recommend Rhinoliner due to their lack of concern for customer satisfaction, despite the quality of their product.
